Winning Hackmobile of Ultimate Maker Vehicle Challenge to be Built by Ford

FLUSHING, Mich - The Hackmobile Transit Connect Wagon was named the winner of the Ultimate Maker Vehicle Challenge presented by Ford Motor Company and MAKE magazine. As a surprise to the builders, Jon Atkinson, Becca Steffen, Riley Harrison and Michael Freiert, Ford will build the winning Hackmobile of the Ultimate Maker Vehicle Challenge. 

The contest featured 10 teams, all competing to create the ultimate Ford Transit Connect Wagon for the do-it-yourself enthusiast. The winning builders, members of Twin Cities Maker, created the Hackmobile. Twin Cities Maker is a nonprofit community organization that operates a shop by the name of Hack Factory. At this shop, members build projects out of different materials and hold classes for the community. Their main idea was to design a Ford Transit Connect Wagon that would transport a three-axis CNC machine, known as The Fabber, that serves as a multipurpose tool in fabricating. The Hackmobile would also have shelving and storage for tools, making it a mobile workshop for woodworking, metalworking and 3D fabrication.

The 10 competitors in the Ultimate Maker Vehicle Challenge were given a specific design and build criteria and a budget to work with before submitting their proposal. The public was allowed to vote once a day for as many entires as they liked. Votes were based on concepts of overall design and customization, as well as enthusiasm by the builders.

This challenge is part of Ford's Markers and Movers campaign with MAKE magazine. It highlights the Transit Connect Wagon, recognizing and showcasing the owners who have used their talents to customize the vehicle. Stories and videos are shared on Makezine.com and demonstrate how Ford has created a vehicle that can be modified for any individual's personal preference.

Ford's 2013 Expectations and 2014 Outlook

FLUSHING, Mich - With what they to believe to be one of the best full years in history and a bright future ahead, Ford Motor Company's 2013 expectations and 2014 outlook are extremely positive.

This past year, Ford has experienced strong revenue growth, market shares in all regions have improved or are equal to last year, total company pre-tax profit is at $8.5 billion,  there is substantially higher Automotive operating-related cash flow, and a stronger balance sheet than a year ago. With all of this being said, 2014 is projected to be another strong year. Ford will be making a crucial next step in the One Ford plan with the launchings of the most vehicles in a single year in more than a century.

Let's take a look at 2013. It is predicted to be one of the best years in Ford history. Automotive revenue for the full-year is estimated to grow about 10 percent and market shares have increased in all regions aside from Europe, where Ford seeks higher retail share of the retail passenger car industry. Ford is making very good progress in putting its Europe transformation plan into affect.

Only being a few weeks away, 2014 is looking to be another good year for Ford and a critical building block in the One Ford Plan as Ford continues to build stronger global brands. Ford will be growing based on outstanding products and a better balanced business when it comes to sales and profitability. With a strengthening balance sheet, Ford will be able to reward shareholders with attractive returns. The company is also launching 23 all-new or refreshed vehicles around the world. Looking like the next step in profitable growth, 2014 is projected to bring in a company pre-tax profit of $7 billion to $8 billion.

Ford Motor Company Joins Emerging Autonomous Technology Race

FLUSHING, Mich - Gentlemen, start your engines. Ford Motor Company has officially joined the emerging autonomous technology race! The company has unveiled a prototype of an autonomous Ford Fusion Hybrid, publicly putting them in a race with big tech companies such as Google Inc and Tesla Motors Inc to build the world's first mass-market driverless car.

Everyone is looking to develop a autonomous car technology today and Ford Motor Company is the latest company to announce their plans about producing self-driving vehicles. Teaming with the University of Michigan and State Farm, Ford launched an automated research vehicle that will help Ford deliver fully autonomous cars by year 2025. Ford has been heading down this road for some time with their "fully assisted parking aid" technology. This is featured in some Ford vehicles today and the same technology will also be featured in the autonomous cars. Ford also recently debuted a technology allowing drivers to park their cars with a touch of a button inside the car or by using a remote outside of the vehicle.

As Ford hopes to deliver the self-driving cars by 2025 using mixes of old and new technology, competitors may beat Ford to the finish line. Tesla Motors Inc is investing in autonomous technology and the company's CEO believes they can provide the driverless experience for its Model S cars in as few as three years. Tesla is also heading towards an "autopilot" approach, which is similar to what an airplane would have, which will take less time to develop.

Ford does happen to have a very good competitive edge. Partnering with State Farm auto insurance allows Ford to have immediate support in regards to regulations that will be put into place to govern how autonomous vehicles should be legislated. Although they may be at a slower start, Ford still plans to be apart of the emerging autonomous technology race.

Winter Car Maintenance Tips

FLUSHING, Mich - The first of many frosts, snows, and freezing rain has begun in Michigan. Although many try to avoid going outside all together, we still have to remember the importance of proper maintenance on your vehicles (aside from scraping of the windshield). The winter weather is rough on our cars and many forget to have certain services done. Here is a list of winter car maintenance tips to keep your vehicle running its very best this season:

1. Keep the appropriate air pressure in your tires.
Be cautious of your tire pressure during the winter months. When temperatures are especially cold, tires lose a pound of pressure with every drop of 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Under-inflated tires won't grip down to the pavement as well as tires with proper pressure levels. A similar effect would be if you were to hydroplane in water.

2. Antifreeze
If you follow you vehicle's regular maintenance schedule, you should be just fine with engine coolant for the winter months. Most new cars have been fitted with coolants that can last as long as five years or 150,000 miles. If you are unsure about the coolant in your vehicle, one of our service technicians can easily assist you.

3. Keep your battery juiced.
Winter puts more stress on the battery, even more so if you park outdoors. If you find that your battery seems to be acting funny, come and see us right away at Delehanty Ford. Don't take the chance of being stranded in the cold!

4. Check your wiper blades.
Be sure that your wiper blades are in good condition. Most wiper blades only have the lifespan of about a year or so. When snow or any other freezing precipitation occur, be sure to turn off your wipers when you park. If wipers are frozen while in motion it can burn out the wiper blade motor.

5. Wax your lights.
A minor detail, but an important one at that. Utilizing the most light out of your head and taillights during these winter months is extremely important for the safety of you and your vehicle.
