A thousand new hires are joining the Ford Motor Company team at the Kansas City Assembly Plant to put the All-New 2015 Ford Transit into production. The Transit was first sold in 1965 and is the best-selling commercial van for the past 49 years in the United Kingdom. With roughly 7 million Transit vans sold around the world, Ford is ready to bring a new addition to the family. The 2015 Transit is going to offer customers a variety of great new options. From choice of roof heights, wheelbases and body lengths to a full suite of new features and easy to operate technologies designed specifically for business. Three powertrains will also provide best-in-class mileage and an outstanding performance.
The Transit is one of the 16 new North American vehicles, 23 global, that Ford will be launching in 2014. It eventually will replace the Ford E-Series that recently just resigned as the best-selling van for the last 25 years. The Transit will take capability and efficiency to the next level and will be an exceptional descendent of the E-Series. With 250-500 cubic feet of cargo room, the Transit has more than twice the storage volume than the E-Series. It will have an average 25 percent better fuel economy and have the ability to haul at least 300 pounds.
The 1,000 new employees that will be working at the Kansas City Assembly Plant are apart of more than 2,000 jobs that the plant has added since the growing demand of Ford trucks. In order to launch the all-new Transit on time, 300 employees started work at the plant in 2013, then 300 more the week of January 6th, and 400 more this week. With a 35 percent job increase at the Kansas City Assembly Plant, the new jobs make Ford the top auto employer in Kansas City!
Ford is producing 5,000 new jobs in the United States; 3,300 of which are salaried positions. This is the largest hiring spree Ford has had since 2000, building on more than 14,000 jobs Ford has developed in North America the past two years.
