Labor Day Weekend Safety Tips

Labor Day Weekend Safety Tips

FLUSHING, Mich.- As we're all excited to head off and celebrate the last weekend of Summer before school starts and Fall starts to move in, let's stop for just a second to keep some important Labor Day Weekend Safety Tips in mind to ensure a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Labor Day Weekend Safety Tips

Chances are you're probably headed up north or to friend's house to celebrate the end of summer, but just remember to prepare yourself for safe travels by keeping an emergency supply kit in your trunk and letting someone know your plan: destination, route, ETA. And as always, buckle up, observe speed limits, and never drink and drive!

With beautiful weather in the forecast, a trip to the lake may be in your plans so it's important to stay safe on the water, especially with children. It is extremely important to provide constant supervision to children who are in or near the water, never being more than an arm's length away. Also, make sure that young and inexperienced swimmers always wear a life vest. And don't forget to check water and weather conditions beforehand too.

Staying safe over the holiday weekend, includes safe food practices too! Everyone will probably be making the most of their grills this weekend so make sure you always follow the manufacturers instructions, and never add charcoal starter fluid when coals are ignited. The grill should always be kept away from children and pets, as well as anything that could catch fire like tree branches or the house.

We wish you and your family a safe and happy Labor Day weekend! If you need a new reliable vehicle for your travels Discover how your family can save on a new Ford at Delehanty Ford. 5 Ways To Save On Back To School Shopping

5 Ways To Save On Back To School Shopping

FLUSHING, Mich.- Back To School season is in full swing, and summer is quickly coming to an end. While you may be excited to send your little ones back to school, you're probably not too excited about how much it's going to cost between supplies, new clothes, and all those extra classroom supplies. It doesn't have to cost a fortune, so check out our 5 Ways to Save on Back To School Shopping before you hit the mall!

5 Ways to Save on Back To School Shopping

1. Take Inventory - Before you head to the store to stock up on new school supplies, take a look at what you already have so that you don't have to buy everything brand new. The same goes for your child's wardrobe; figure out what fits and what doesn't before you go on a shopping spree.

2. Do Your Research - While you don't need to go over the top like they do on shows such as Extreme Couponing, take a look at your local paper to find the best sales or check out any coupon sites or blogs to save on specific items. Shopping at a store that price matches can also help you make sure you're getting the lowest possible price. And if you find a deal that you just can't beat, there is nothing wrong with getting a few extra supplies to save for next year!

3. Stick With Classics - A lot of back to school advertising focuses on the latest and greatest school supplies like lunch boxes and backpacks. However, these items can add up so it's best to stick with the basics in these departments to avoid ending up with an "un-cool" backpack in 2 months.

4. Shop Later - It may not be the most popular choice, but waiting to go back to school shopping until after your child has gone back to school can actually save you money. Not only are you more likely to find sale items, but your child has had a chance to check out the latest trends and what their friends are wearing so they are more likely to pick out items that they will actually wear.

5. Student Discounts - If you have an older child headed back to high school or college, don't forget about student discounts at certain stores. You can save big bucks with student discounts at stores like Banana Republic, J.Crew, and Apple! Even if you're unsure, it doesn't hurt to ask.

A few simple changes can help you save on back to school shopping for your little one. But if your family needs a new ride for the local car pool, we can help you save on that too! Discover how your family can save on a new Ford at Delehanty Ford. We're located at 1510 E. Updated Ford GT Revealed

Updated Ford GT Revealed

FLUSHING, Mich.- Looking back on classic or noteworthy car models, often leaves you wondering why they left the automotive world. What if they were still around? And that's exactly what one California man wondered about the Ford GT, so he brought it back!

Beau Boeckmann wondered why one of the most important super car's life was cut short, so instead of wondering, "What if..." he answered his own question by revealing an updated Ford GT! Resembling and performing more like a race car than street car, the original Ford GT was only around for about two years earlier in 2000. And while some vehicles have a short shelf life for obvious reasons, the GT's departure from the automotive world was premature.

Updated Ford GT Revealed

In an effort to build interest in an updated Ford GT, Boeckmann debuted the new car, named the Ford GTR1, at a recent Motorsports Gathering that is known for attracting those with the means to support a new venture. The exciting GTR1 features serious updates to the GT which was last on sale seven years ago. With a completely updated exterior, the GTR1 also receives stronger brakes and a six-speed manual transmission. But most notably, horsepower is nearly doubled to 1,024 HP from 550 HP thanks to a twin-turbocharged engine!

Ford fans all over the world are already looking to get their hands on the updated Ford GT, but with a hefty price tag of more than $1 million, it looks like it will only be a reality for a select few!

Back To School: Bus Safety Tips

Back To School: Bus Safety Tips

FLUSHING, Mich.- Another summer has flown by in the blink of an eye, which means the little ones are headed back to school soon. But while we send them back to school to expand their knowledge, it's important to keep our kids safe as they travel to and from school each day. As the first day of school nears, review these Back To School: Bus Safety Tips with your family to kick off a safe school year!

Back To School: Bus Safety Tips

A safe school day begins at the bus stop, so always encourage kids to walk, not run, to the bus stop on the sidewalk. If your neighborhood does not have sidewalks, remember to walk on the left side of the road facing traffic, so you can see approaching vehicles. Arrive at the bus stop about 5 minutes early, and then wait in a safe place away from the road. When the school bus does arrive, watch for the red flashing lights and for the Stop sign to be extended and then cross only when all traffic has stopped. It's also important to remind children to NEVER speak to strangers at the bus stop and to NEVER get in the car with someone they do not know!

Once on the bus, there are a few guidelines you can set for your children to keep them safe on the ride to and from school. The first thing they should do is go directly to their seat and remain seated, facing forward and keeping the aisles clear for the entire ride. It's okay to socialize with friends, but remind them to talk quietly so they do not distract the driver. Should your child need to talk to the bus driver, instruct them to wait for the bus to stop, then raise their hand and call the driver's name. And as you probably already know, it's important to remind kids that they should never throw things on the bus, or out the windows, and they should never play with the emergency exits.

Once the school day has ended, keep a few tips in mind to exit the bus safely and return home. While exiting, have children walk three extra steps away from the bus so they are away from wheels and moving cars; the safest place to be around a bus. If your child drops something while getting off the bus, they should let the bus driver before they try to pick it up so the driver knows where they are. Or, if they accidentally leave something on the bus, do not go back to get it since the bus may be in motion and the driver may not be able to see them. Remind your child that they should always get off at their designated stop, and if they need to get off somewhere else, they should have a note from a parent.

We're entering an exciting time of year so let's keep our children safe as they head back to school! A new ford vehicle can help to keep your family safe this year too! Ford Escape Uses Recycled Plastic Bottles In Carpeting

Ford Escape Uses Recycled Plastic Bottles In Carpeting

FLUSHING, Mich.- As part of Ford Motor Company's commitment to become more environmentally friendly, many vehicles in the automaker's line up are incorporating more sustainable or recycled materials. But Ford's midsize SUV is utilizing one that we're all more than familiar with. The new Ford Escape uses recycled plastic bottles in its carpeting!

Plastic beverage bottles litter our lives--on our desks, at work, at home, in the car, at school--and rather than allowing those bottles to fill landfills, Ford is repurposing them in the form of carpeting in the Ford Escape! It's the first time Ford has used the carpeting in an SUV, but considering sales of the Escape totaled around 277,000 through June of this year, and each vehicle utilizes 25 plastic bottles in its carpeting, the positive impact on the environment is overwhelming! In the first half of this year, nearly 7 million bottles were potentially diverted from landfills, just from the Ford Escape!

Ford Escape Uses Recycled Plastic Bottles In Carpeting

Before Ford decides to use any new material, it must pass extensive durability tests to prove that it will enhance the product. Incorporating recycled plastic bottles in the Ford Escape's carpeting actually reduces wear on the carpet too! So you can feel good driving the new Escape knowing that It's doing its part to help the environment.

Ford Adds Rear Inflatable Safety Belts to 2014 Fusion

Ford Adds Rear Inflatable Safety Belts to 2014 Fusion

FLUSHING, Mich.- The Ford Fusion is already highly awarded for its impressive suite of safety and driver assist technologies that keep drivers and passengers safe, but now the 2014 model is setting a standard in the popular midsize segment with another safety feature! Ford has added rear inflatable safety belts to the 2014 Fusion, combining the attributes of safety belts and airbags!

Dedicated to it's commitment to keep us safe, Ford Motor Company has developed this new technology  to contain airbags in the outboard rear seats. In the event of a crash, sensors can determine when the inflatable belt should deploy, which signals the safety belt's tubular airbag to quickly inflate with compressed gas. Ford adding rear inflatable safety belts to the 2014 Fusion offers additional protection for back seat passengers, which are usually children or older adults that are more vulnerable to head, neck, and chest injuries.

Even if your child is in a car seat or booster, the inflatable safety belt technology can keep your little one safe by distributing crash forces across more of the passengers torso; up to five times more than a traditional seat belt! By spreading the impact over a larger area, pressure is reduced on the chest which can help to control head and neck motion.

Ford Adds Rear Inflatable Safety Belts to 2014 Fusion

Originally introduced on the 2011 Explorer, the new inflatable safety belts available on the 2014 Ford Fusion are also available on the Hybrid and Energi models. While the Fusion is extremely spacious, if you know that your family vehicle needs even more space, you can also find this safety belt feature on the Explorer, Flex, and Taurus!

Ford F-150 Environmentally Friendly And Tough

Ford F-150 Environmentally Friendly And Tough

FLUSHING, Mich.- Ford Motor Company continuously strives to incorporate recycled content into vehicles, and America's best selling truck is the latest example! The 2014 Ford F-150 is environmentally friendly and tough thanks to the new sustainable materials being used to produce the truck, like rice hulls.

While F-Series trucks already utilize recycled cotton, soybeans, recycled carpet, recycled tires, recycled plastic soda pop and water bottles, and recycled post-industrial plastics, the latest sustainable material being incorporated into production is rice hull-reinforced plastic. Rice hulls are a byproduct of rice grain and is being used to reinforce plastic in a 2014 F-140 electrical harness.

Although Ford is working to make their vehicles more green, the automaker does not sacrifice toughness or durability. After discovering a new sustainable material that can feasibly be used in one of the vehicles, the material must undergo testing to ensure it performs as well if not better than comparable materials. Ford example, the new rice hull-reinforced plastic, which was developed by Ford and RheTech, underwent testing for more than a year. Everything from smell, appearance, functionality, and flammability was examined before the material received approval.

It's obvious that for Ford fuel economy is a top priority, not only to help you save at the pump, but to also improve the automaker's environmental impact. But, it's also important to recognize the impact that can be made by incorporating sustainable materials into the production of vehicles. While multiple Ford vehicles utilize an array of eco-friendly materials, the F-Series alone uses about 10 million pounds of recycled cotton annually thanks to the trucks more than 650,000 sales per year! So you can see how the effect can really add up! For the 2014 model year, the Ford F-150 will be Environmentally Friendly And Tough as Ford plans to source a minimum of 45,000 pounds of rice hulls from Arkansas for the new reinforced plastic.

And, that's all aside from the eco-friendly technologies that Ford has developed for the new F-150. If you're ready for a new ride that is Built Ford Tough...and Green, discover the Ford F-150 at Delehanty Ford. We're located at 1510 E. Ford Increases Ford Fusion Production

Ford Increases Ford Fusion Production

FLUSHING, Mich.-  The new Ford Fusion continues to be one of the quickest sellers for Ford, and the automaker has just announced that they will boost production of the vehicle in order to meet demand!

When it comes to typical turnover rates, vehicles usually spend around 50-60 days on a lot, depending on the dealership and location, but with one of the shortest turnover rates, a Fusion is typically only on a dealer's lot for an average of 10 days! Which means Ford must increase Fusion production in order to keep up with the selling pace.

An expansion of the production capacity at Ford's Flat Rock Assembly Plant will allow the automaker to increase production. This is also the same plant that will begin to use a simulated factory for new hire training, which will allow quick and efficient training for a large number of new hires, which can then get to work on the Fusion. The simulated factory training and production capacity expansion will increase production by about 10,000 vehicles per month!

With Ford increasing Ford Fusion production, we will be able to welcome the new 2014 Ford Fusion to our lot sooner this fall! But if you're interested in the 2013 Ford Fusion, stop by our lot located in Flushing, MI, to take one for a test drive and see how it can solve your vehicle needs!

Ford Fiesta Wins Women’s World Car of the Year

Ford Fiesta Wins Women’s World Car of the Year

FLUSHING, Mich.- Ford Motor Company has been topping headlines all year, winning numerous awards for specific vehicles in addition to being voted the Top Brand in the country by millions of Americans. And the automaker isn't stopping now! The Ford Fiesta won Women’s World Car of the Year, adding another honor to the list!

The Women's World Car of the Year is chosen by a panel of 18 female automotive writers from around the world who judge the vehicle based on criteria that they deem important to women: safety, value-for-money, storage space, appearance, kid-friendly, ease-of-driving, sex appeal, color and environmental footprint. The 18 women awarded the best vehicle in eight different categories – including best vehicle overall. After considering all of the criteria, the Ford Fiesta was chosen as the best choice for all of these criteria, and was described as stylish, fuel-efficient, fun to drive, technologically advanced, good value, and a top safety pick!

While the Ford Fiesta won the Women’s World Car of the Year, the new Fiesta appeals to both male and female drivers with its updated bold exterior and an impressive, comfortable interior. Performance-wise, the 2014 Ford Fiesta is equipped with a 1.6L Ti-VCT I-4 engine, and features like electric power-assisted steering and AdvanceTrac electronic stability control. Not to mention, the vehicle earned Best-in-Class Fuel Economy, with an average of 41 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg in the city.

We are excited to share that Ford Motor Company has another honor to add to its list! Come see for your self why the Ford Fiesta won the Women's World Car of the year, we know you'll agree with the judges' decision!
