“You Test” Campaign Gives Truck Drivers Opportunity to Test 2015 F-150

FLUSHING, Mich—Are you "Ford Tough" enough? Ford's “You Test” Campaign gives truck drivers the opportunity to test the 2015 F-150 before anyone else! In order to qualify, contestants must prove that they are Built Ford Tough with an online submission.

Those who are willing to accept the challenge can enter at BuiltToughTest.com by describing their tactics of how they would test the all-new F-150 to test its true capabilities. Whether it's through a rocky dirt trail or off-roading in the Outback, Ford wants to hear what your strategy is! Interested contestants must submit their entires by May 31, 2014 and the winners will be announced before September 1, 2014. MCA's Mustang Celebration Will Be One For The Books

FLUSHING, Mich - The Mustang Club of America (MCA) is hosting a Mustang Celebration that will be one for the books. Enthusiasts from all over the United States are invited and encouraged to join in on this historic celebration of the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration.

Happy Birthday, Ford Mustang! Fifty years old never looked so good! The MCA, along with support from Ford Motor Company, will be holding an amazing event that Mustang lovers from all over America can enjoy. Cars young and old are invited to join in on a cross-country drive to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway for five days full of Mustang festivities.

Starting on April 13, 2014 in Norman, Oklahoma, drivers will take the U.S. by storm. Each Pony Drive will stop in three different host cities along the way as well as have a unique goodie box to offer each participant. For those who are unable to travel to Norman, they are still able to register online and meet in one of the other host cities. According to Ford Media, the tentative schedule is:

• Sunday, April 13 – Pony Drive Migration Begins from Norman, Okla.
• Wednesday, April 16 – The first official day of the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration will feature vendors and exhibits as Pony Drives and members arrive
• Thursday, April 17 – MCA will conduct opening ceremonies followed by a host of activities and exhibits including track time, Ford’s Ride & Drives and hot laps, car displays, vendors and historical displays celebrating Mustang’s 50th
• Friday, April 18 – Activities continue, with a themed dinner
• Saturday, April 19 – The festivities will follow the same pattern as Friday; Saturday evening will feature the Saturday Night Banquet, with guest speakers
• Sunday, April 20 – Easter Sunrise Services will be held early morning at both tracks; parade laps around the speedways and closing ceremonies

Increased growth in China has caused Focus registrations to surpass 303,000 units there and earn the title of the best-selling passenger car nameplate.

According to Polk global vehicle data, the Ford Focus is the best-selling nameplate in the world. Strong growth in China during 2013 between January and September led to 856,587 global registrations. China was without a doubt the largest contributor to Ford success with 303, 481 registrations; an 85 percent year-over-year increase.

Each of these components scored 15 to 40 percent higher among customers than Ford's closest competitor. 2015 Mustang Sells for $300,000 at Barrett-Jackson Auction

FLUSHING, Mich - Sam Pack, car collector and North Texas Ford dealer, bought the 2015 Mustang for $300,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Proceeds of the sale will benefit JDRF, the leading diabetes research organization and a Ford partner since 1983. The purchase of the all-new Ford Mustang for $300,000 helped Ford Motor Company increase charity vehicle sales to more than $3.5 million!

The Ford Mustang has always been known as "the car designed to be designed by you", which is exactly what bidder Sam Pack is going to be able to do. Pack will have the option of an automatic or manual transmission as well as choose the interior and exterior combination offered on the 2015 Ford Mustang GT. The Mustang design and development team will also sign the car in appreciation of the donation to JDRF.

John Brady, the incoming chairman for JDRF, was absolutely thrilled with the results of the auction and the efforts from Ford and Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. The future Children's Hospital of Saskatchewan also received a donation, thanks to the sale of the 1956 Ford F-100. The truck is a beautiful combination of street rod styling and influences from the Ford Shelby GT500. KISS bassist, Gene Simmons and Saskatoon-born actress wife, Shannon Tweed-Simmons, came together with area businesses to create the Wheels of Dreams Project. The fundraising of this project will go to help the Children's Hospital's 2016 construction completion goal.

"The Future of Tough" features a 22 foot, 75,000 pound assembly line display, showing customers each stage of the F-150 construction. Each stage of construction focuses on a particular theme of either durability, capability, efficiency, and technology. The assembly line display helps customers understand the extent of what Ford engineers had to go to to bring the F-150 to life.

"50 Years of Mustang" takes over the new upper-level display and looks back on 50 years of Mustang success. From its impact on fashion, film, food, and fun to historical artifacts, this display is Mustang heaven! The all-new pony car is on display front and center with it's 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine.

Visitors can also enjoy a live engagement presentation and film as well as take part in the narration and presentation. Ford also has two race simulators that allows to drivers to race on a head-to-head road course and compete for the winning time (which can then be shared via their social networks).

Ford Introduces 3-D Printing Strategy at NAIAS

FLUSHING, Mich - Amongst many exciting announcements at the start of the 2014 North American International Auto Show, one may have been overlooked. Ford Introduces a new 3-D Printing Strategy at the NAIAS to the public, adding an exciting new element to their design process.

The signage above reads:

• Ford ushers in the next manufacturing revolution by 3D-printing parts to represent production components.
• 3D printing improves quality in Ford vehicles by providing engineers more time and freedom to optimize and test parts.
• Ford's 500,000th printed auto part is a prototype engine cover for the all-new Ford Mustang.
• The next steps in Ford's 3-D printing strategy are auto industry firsts -- mixed material applications, continuous 3-D sand printing and direct metal printing.

Overall, 3-D printing can save Ford massive amounts of time and simultaneously allow them to become a better auto maker. Ford will be able to spend more time refining designs and avoid having to wait for prototypes to be developed. 3-D printing reduces Ford's lead times for prototypes by one to two months. Ford will be able to utilize this 3-D printing to make anything from a small car component to a complex engine block. This new strategy can completely compensate for expensive tooling that is usually required to make the same component.  

Ford is also looking to use direct metal printing. This could help reduce lead times due to the number of advantages direct metal printing has over 3-D sand printing. Direct metal printing eliminates a number of steps out of the design and manufacturing process. A direct metal printed object can simply be designed and printed. It really is that simple! Eliminating pre-production steps could save lots of time and allow engineers more time to improve designs.

Ford Introducing the 3-D Printing Strategy at the NAIAS has room to improve the company's overall efficiency as well as lead to cost-savings in the design and manufacturing process. Once this new strategy is put into motion, Ford will have to ability to thrive in the competitive auto marketplace.

New Hires Join Kansas City Plant to Launch Ford Transit

FLUSHING, Mich - Ford has 1,000 New Hires Joining the Kansas City Plant to Launch the All-New Ford Transit. As the All-New Ford Transit is set to go on sale this summer, Ford will also be having an additional 175 employees join the team in March 2014.

A thousand new hires are joining the Ford Motor Company team at the Kansas City Assembly Plant to put the All-New 2015 Ford Transit into production. The Transit was first sold in 1965 and is the best-selling commercial van for the past 49 years in the United Kingdom. With roughly 7 million Transit vans sold around the world, Ford is ready to bring a new addition to the family. The 2015 Transit is going to offer customers a variety of great new options. From choice of roof heights, wheelbases and body lengths to a full suite of new features and easy to operate technologies designed specifically for business. Three powertrains will also provide best-in-class mileage and an outstanding performance.

The Transit is one of the 16 new North American vehicles, 23 global, that Ford will be launching in 2014. It eventually will replace the Ford E-Series that recently just resigned as the best-selling van for the last 25 years. The Transit will take capability and efficiency to the next level and will be an exceptional descendent of the E-Series. With 250-500 cubic feet of cargo room, the Transit has more than twice the storage volume than the E-Series. It will have an average 25 percent better fuel economy and have the ability to haul at least 300 pounds.

The 1,000 new employees that will be working at the Kansas City Assembly Plant are apart of more than 2,000 jobs that the plant has added since the growing demand of Ford trucks. In order to launch the all-new Transit on time, 300 employees started work at the plant in 2013, then 300 more the week of January 6th, and 400 more this week. With a 35 percent job increase at the Kansas City Assembly Plant, the new jobs make Ford the top auto employer in Kansas City!

Ford is producing 5,000 new jobs in the United States; 3,300 of which are salaried positions. This is the largest hiring spree Ford has had since 2000, building on more than 14,000 jobs Ford has developed in North America the past two years.

The F-150 Trade In: Aluminum for Steel

FLUSHING, Mich- Ford is taking one of the biggest gambles in its history. The F-150 Trade In: Aluminum for Steel will bring a mass of manufacturing challenges as well as the additional convincing to pickup fanatics that aluminum is as durable as steel.

By switching aluminum out with steel, it will cut the F-150's weight by about 700 pounds. This 15 percent reduction would allow Ford trucks to go further on a gallon of gasoline. This will also open door to other changes, such as smaller engines, that will boost fuel economy. Accompanied by the addition to aluminum, the F-150 will be given a more muscular look.

With the new fuel-economy regulations, the U.S. vehicle fleet is required to average 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. Requirements increase fuel economy goals for vehicles of different sizes each year. Ford's new truck is being created to come out this year and will be capable of hitting the increasing fuel economy standards through 2020. On average the F-150 four-wheel drive with the 3.5-liter V6 engine gets 17 miles per gallon combined city and highway mileage.

The F-series is one of the most popular and profitable motor-vehicle lines in the world. Using aluminum would require many changes throughout the manufacturing process, however, Ford appointed Peter Reyes to lead the F-series program. Mr. Reyes led the development of the new midsize sedan and the update of the Super Duty versions of the F-series trucks. He believes by reducing 10% of the vehicle weight results in a 7% increase in fuel economy.

The F-150 Trade In: Aluminum for Steel is risky, with the F-series being such a key product in Ford's success. However, Ford is confident considering they are already the leader in aluminum use in full-size pickups.

Ford Sales in China Increase 50% in 2013

FLUSHING, Mich - There has been tons of recognition for Ford's outstanding year in the United States between the Best-Vehicle Brand in America title in the bag, new sales records being set, unveiling new technology, and the lists goes on. Ford sales in China have increased by 50 percent in 2013, with wholesale vehicle sales totaling 935,813. 

2013 has been a milestone year for Ford's growth in China. The plan to bring China seven of Ford's next-generation global vehicles was a successful one. A strong Chinese customer demand for the expanded lineup of vehicles allowed Ford China to set another annual sales record. 

The Ford Focus ST, Ford Fiesta ST, Ford Edge, and the Ford Explorer made a huge splash in China in 2013. These four imports sold 26,856 wholesales, up a massive 231 percent compared to the 8,108 sold in 2012. The Ford Focus lead 2013 sales with 403,640 wholesales. 

A strong ending to 2013 with Ford sales in China up 50 percent, Ford is excited for the start of 2014.
